Courage doesn’t always roar

Courage doesn’t always roar

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”

Mary Anne Radmacher

Courage

Love this quote! Because there are a thousand ways we put on our courage coat and rise up to see what each new day is going to bring.

For me courage is sometimes backing up from something I started and taking a second look. How that worked out for me yesterday was that I decided that being a “Vegan,” was not working. I loved the idea of trying wonderful new recipes and exploring a whole different way of eating and experimenting with food but I also found that I couldn’t seem to get enough protein to have the energy, and motivation to be a happy self instead of a grumbly self.

After talking on and off with my sister, Barb (a dietician) she brought up the fact that I probably needed much more protein that I was getting. She said as we age we need more protein not less to be healthy and that Vegans need to eat twice as much food to get the protein needed. We discussed a lot more stuff that got me thinking and then I added in some research on my own and sure enough found a lot of information that backed up what she was saying . . .

Negative factors for being a Vegan for me

  1. I was dealing with my low energy level by adding more coffee to get through the day.
  2. My patience level had dropped to about a 2 on a scale of 10. Little things became BIG at the drop of the hat and
  3. I was really feeling like I needed a drink almost daily! I didn’t do that but it was certainly on my mind that life would improve with one! That wasn’t good either.

So I said that’s it! I quit.

I told Jon that I needed to add eggs and cheese back into my diet and he was fine with that . . . he even took me shopping this morning to get some eggs and cheese. I do think the experiment was worth it – we both opened up to eating all sorts of new foods and adding a LOT more veggies to our diet which we will continue to do and so for that alone I feel we are definitely coming out ahead. At this point red meat and poultry is still off the menu but who knows?

And the book goes on . . .

I have no idea what I am going to work on today. Of course I want to do the fun stuff like working on the cover but this time I have told myself I will not do that till I have at least 50 stories. Sometimes I just have to be stern with myself.

Repeated stuff

If you would like to share a story . . .

I’ve set up a scheduling page for 30 minute phone chats to talk about your story idea. It takes away a lot of the back and forth. Do give it a try with this link 30 minute Phone Chat with me And of course it doesn’t have to be a whole 30 minutes if you want to make it even just a couple minutes! 🙂

You can also email me at patty@pattygrasher.com or call or text me at (360) 949-0929. If you call please know that I don’t always respond to numbers (spam) I don’t recognize but if you leave a short message I will call you back.

The Lord is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation;
this is my God, and I will praise him,
my father’s God, and I will exalt him.”
Exodus 15:2

The Countdown is on!

130 days to book publication. Stay tuned.

Please add “your” three gratitude moments in the comments. It’s a great way to pick up your day and it’s fun for the rest of us to read!

  1. I bought a whole dozen, beautiful brown eggs at Trader Joe’s and I can’t wait to cook one! I keep telling Jon I would like to raise a couple chickens but this is a hard sell.
  2. A bit more sun today than was predicted. Good!
  3. Going to try making a new Asian Salad for dinner.

The third puzzle today has the pieces randomly rotated which you can change back to regular if you want. Select “PLAY AS” at the top right of the page – then select “Custom” and uncheck Rotation or Read these directions to play rotated.

  1. Hi, Patty! As I was reading this today, it struck me that I am enjoying and looking forward to your posts more than ever! Keep ’em coming! And I really do like the new look of the site, too 🙂

Just wanted to tell you that.
Also, I will be setting up a phone-in story appt. soon.
This one is from my own time of searching and researching: chicken, rarely, forget the red meat 🙂
