“How you think when you lose
determines how long it will be
Until You Win.”
Gilbert K Chesterton
Winning is a matter of sticking to something long enough to make it work. In order for that to happen one needs a mindset to see failure as stepping stones not falling off a cliff. This is advice I am telling myself because I have an instant “Oh No!” reaction to failure that typically follows the “I’m a failure, it’s over the cliff I goooooo.” Kersplash. Kerplunk.
So it’s all mindset. And that is where in the past I used prayer to carry me through things. Now I’m not so much into the prayer stuff and the result is I quit faster and harder.
It’s not that I have dropped prayer completely. But I would say it has gone from the 90 percent range to about 10 or less. On the other hand I don’t think I am any less in tune with the God side of my life – it’s just very different. More reality based. What is real and what is not? Some of the prayer practices such as hours in the chapel are gone and I see that as an okay thing. Really. It worked for me then but I couldn’t stand it now. I’m different. My whole life is different.
I spend a lot of time thinking about life beyond this life. I can’t connect with it – feel it, experience it – but I’m definitely open to it. Whatever it is. And I think the key to it has to do with love, giving and being honest with all that is. Which is probably impossible to really do. No answers here – just being open to finding out.
