Well this is embarrassing . . .

You know the song, \”Another one bit the dust\”? I\’ve never really paid attention to the lyrics just liked the refrain. And that refrain about sums up my latest book project.

It\’s not being totally scrapped . . . it\’s just being totally revised. Because writing a memoir is not what I thought it was.

I explained in a post or two ago that a memoir is not your whole life story. It\’s just a piece – a theme of some topic that fits major points of one\’s life. And so . . .

It\’s back to the drawing board. I want to do a book. I want to include parts of my life story but based around a theme. So now I am trying to figure out exactly what that theme should be.

Any thoughts?

  1. Dinner sounds delicious, lunch out with a friend is wonderful and a new hair cut is a feel good most of the time, lol.
Wow to starting over on the book. I am learning so much from you on writing, etc. Start with just prior to the military life and go from there ?

  2. Patty, I think your theme should be Your decision to enter a cloistered sisterhood and your decision to leave (my guess is they Asked you to because of “chaos” through your various exploits during putting together books, a radio station, being disorganized And making the other nuns crazy while doing all that), Along with your bird and dog and cat), your exploits after coming out of trying to earn a living And live on your own while taking care of your animals, and then the highlight should be how you met Jon and your love story. There, I have boiled it down To all the things that I would like to know. You’re welcome. ? I have been around for your whole ride from fame to pain to infamy. ? And finally love. ❤️

    1. Hi Jeanne,
Sorry I didn’t get back to your comment earlier. Oooops! Actually it was totally my decision to leave the Monastery – the Sisters did not want or encourage me to do it – I left because I just couldn’t live the cloistered lifestyle anymore. Some people may think it is an easy life but no life is easy when it no longer allows you to breathe or be who you are. For me it was survival of my soul – which sounds strange as you would think Monastic life would be totally soul oriented – but over the years things changed, I changed and it no longer was the place I could be myself. The hardest, hardest part of the decision was to leave the sisters whom I dearly loved and had shared my life with so long. But one thing I learned in therapy was that I am a people pleaser and for me people pleasing reached a max point.

  3. Concerning your book: Maybe the story of how you became a nun and why you left the order. I would think that would be a very interesting story. Just my 2 cents worth!

    1. Yes, I will include that part of my life story in the book – as it is very pivotal to my life journey. Not the end of it by any means but a vital, life enriching, part.
