Give Something
Some of the best giving moments I have received have come in the form of a helping hand, a listening ear or just a few moments of friendship.
Sometimes I feel I have been gifted by someone(s) and they didn\’t even realize they were giving. Just seeing children at play or a couple enjoying each other\’s company or perhaps seeing someone stopping to help another driver alongside the road. Witnessing the giving, loving and caring of others for others is a gift itself, a moment that picks up ones thoughts on humanity.
Every day when Jon and I go for a walk we hold hands as we go. One day we were surprised when a lady pulling out of a church parking lot opened her window and said something about how uplifting it was to see us walking hand in hand. It made both of us smile at her gift of sharing a loving thought and it made us realize that in some small way we were giving to others a witness of love and caring just by walking together.
Yesterday as we were walking down the sidewalk a tabby cat whom we often see across the street sleeping on a car roof this time was on the sidewalk of the other side of the street. He saw us and came trotting over to greet us and let us pet him (or her). I think he has been watching us every day as we watched him and a sort of friendship had been growing without our even realizing it.
It seems that almost all of the news stations now end their programs with a positive life moment. I\’m glad they are doing that as it sort of lightens the heaviness of doom and gloom in most of the reporting. It\’s proof that people don\’t want just a heavy load of what\’s wrong with the world but are even more hungry for glimpses of what is right.
As I was writing this the Scripture quote below came to mind and I decided to include it because it is the essence of giving goodness to ourselves and when we do that our face lightens, our smiles come more quickly and our sense of giving is heightened to the point not only do we respond more quickly when we see others in need, we look for opportunities to give even if the ways are very small.
