“I am happy because I am grateful.”
A bit of rain, a bit of sun. Nice. Have been working on the puzzle book all day and getting a bit computer tired. Sat outside on the swing for a bit and enjoyed the day. Perfect 78 degrees.
I’ve been thinking a bit today on happiness. Abraham Lincoln once said that most people are as “happy as they make up their minds to be.” I am not sure with today’s understanding of mental afflictions if that is entirely true. With a bit of understanding how our brains are affected by so many things – chemical make-up, food we eat, childhood, DNA – the list grows so that I think to say we are totally in control of how happy we are is maybe not true.
On the other hand our thinking can certainly affect a lot. And it often takes deliberate work on being happy to be happy. Basically I guess it IS up to us to do as much as we can to live, love and accept what each day brings.
But judging whether someone else is not happy because they choose not to be – I don’t think I agree with that. And perhaps it IS up to us to be as helpful as we can to encourage others happiness. Sometimes we all need a push to get our swing up a little higher.
Today’s Three Sunshine (Gratitude) Moments:
1. Glad to be working (such as it is) from home.
2. Loving to do these daily puzzles. Today’s Guest puzzle starts with 180 pieces but I change it to about 60 pieces and that works for me!
3. Good report on Buddy’s vet visit. Nothing major seems to be wrong – may have beginning of arthritis or something. He is on an inflammatory for a week to see if it helps.
