“The root of joy is gratefulness.”

David Steindl-Rast

\"\"

It begins with gratefulness

After 28 years of living in a very structured environment I have to say there is a certain element of rebellion in me when it comes to structuring my day. I just want to be free!

But I have to admit that a structured environment actually works for getting things done. My happy go lucky, \”What shall I do today?\” attitude means that I spend a lot of my time \”thinking\” about what to do rather than \”doing.\”

I also jump on whatever promises to be the most exciting rather than the most necessary. (Gosh, I am such a good counselor for myself and I\’m free!)

Anyway back to the topic at hand – which I obviously wandered away from – and that is putting \”GRATITUDE\” as a simple and easy way to start my day.

As much as I go on about \”coffee\” being the jump start of my moods I will be totally honest and say that thinking about all the wonderful things God has given me each day is much more the real \”Jump Start\” for creating a happy day.

It also works for the end of the day. And it even works for waking up in the middle of the night with too many thoughts swirling in my head as a \”calm and be at peace\” tonic for getting back to sleep.

Although I will admit last night I decided to get up at a quarter to four and write in my journal (emptying the thought load) and play a few games of solitaire before returning to bed.

I love to Play Solitaire

I know that all the high energy coaches put down playing games on one\’s iPad or Kindle as a total time waster . . . but I find it\’s a very soothing and relaxing thing to do. It\’s sort of a yoga thing for me. Crazy maybe but it works for me.

I also like to play a few other things like Jigsaw puzzles, Word games, etc.

And another horrible time waster according to some and that is watching TV. Well that is another thing that Jon and I like to do. Every night after dinner we watch the news and then a few TV shows together.

I know it is surprising I get anything done but I like taking fun breaks and since no one is beating me over the head not to . . . I shall continue on.

Scripture quote for the day

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
Psalm 106:1

\"\"

Please add \”your\” three gratitude moments in the comments. It\’s a great way to pick up your day and it\’s fun for the rest of us to read!

  1. Last night we made Vegan burritos for the first time. Very good.
  2. Herb tea with a bit of Almond milk. My new favorite treat.
  3. Joy of being able to take a nap when tired. Nice.
