Some days one just has to learn one\’s limitations the hard way. In today\’s case it was more about my car\’s limits. I have been driving all over these icy, winter roads without any problem and was starting to believe that my little car could take on any hill no matter how steep or icy it was. Wrong.

My sister has not been able to get out of her driveway because it\’s goes straight up. A great work out for walking the dog but not so great with a glassy layer of ice. So I was driving her home and though I wasn\’t going to tackle her drive way I thought that I could probably make it up the road that led to her driveway. Didn\’t work. Made it about 500 feet and then even though I didn\’t have it in reverse that was what we were doing. Lucky it was near the bottom of the hill and I was able to back it down a bit and into a driveway to turn around.

So, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I now know how steep an icy hill I cannot go. Good thing to know. I was very glad my sister was with me because it was dark and it was good to have another pair of eyes to help me back the car up carefully so we didn\’t end in a ditch. We then drove around the long but less steep way to get her within walking distance of her home.

The other day driving down that hill that we didn\’t make (easier down than up) there was a pick-up that had slipped off the road and was almost vertically on its hood. That must have been scary. Not sure how they got out of it.

So I have now had my winter driving fix and the weather can warm up again and get back to just being rainy and wet like a typical Oregon winter should be. It is supposed to be back up to 45 by the end of the week. I am sure we shall all appreciate it much more than we have!

Story from First Book: He Pled Guilty

Wrote a small article for CMN (Catholic Mobilizing Network) that will be published in their Christmas newsletter. Hoping to get a few stories from their following. I am starting to feel like Elizabeth and this book may not bear fruit until I am in my old age.  🙂

But not worried. God\’s timing and mine are rarely on the same timeline. I want things done yesterday and He thinks the day after the next will be just perfect.

  1. Getting on the road is really dangerous right now in much of the country. Do be careful. Here it has been 48 degrees for 3 days. But feels much colder. Good you have a story to contribute to the newsletter. Love your sense of humor, Patricia. Always makes me smile/laugh at loud. God bless.

    1. Hi Ann, Good to hear from you. Still cold here – though it is supposed to warm up – maybe tomorrow . . .

Roads are still icy and dangerous – in fact came to stop sign today and we didn’t stop – because the car didn’t want to . . .

  2. Congrats on your article being published. Exciting !

Scary drive on the icy hill. Very scary. I know the feeling of being in the car and it is sliding backwards on ice down a steep street . Not a good feeling. Glad you and Barb got home safely.

Snow here today. Supposed to stop early afternoon. Temps between 32 and 34 as of now.

    Have a great day Patricia.

    1. Yes – scary driving. The worst thing is over-confidence. You start feeling you have it under control – speed up a bit – and guess what – not as much control as one thought.

So far no fender benders or over the curb and into the ditch experiences but they are all around me.

  3. I will pray for you to be safe in this cold weather filled with icy roads as I sit in 83 degrees. We hope next week to go to 69/70 degrees. Have a blessed week. Kathy OFS Siochan Agus Maitheas

    1. Kathy. I don’t know. Praying for me while you are in 83 degree weather just doesn’t seem right. 🙂 I know it will warm up soon.
